Auburn University, the home of the Tigers and the constant ring of "War Eagle" in the air. Settled in the small town of Auburn, Alabama, football season is the only important season and we bleed orange and blue. But what is there to do for fun? Well, let me tell you...

Toomer's Corner

One of the most iconic things about Auburn, grabbing a freshly hand squeezed lemonade from Toomer's Drugs is a must for everyone who passes through this quaint college town. If your sweet tooth isn't quenched with just the lemonade, grab yourself a delicious homemade ice cream sandwich from there, too!

Samford Lawn

Take your lemonade and head across the street to Samford Lawn where you can sit and relax in front of the most iconic building on Auburn's campus. Take a friend and a blanket or a frisbee for a game of catch. You will find many people Enoing on the surrounding trees and enjoying the beautiful view and great Alabama weather. For dog lovers, you're almost guaranteed to meet a furry friend.

Rolling Toomer's Corner

Anyone who is in Auburn for a football victory must participate in this tradition, no matter what team you root for. Throwing toilet paper throughout the streets of downtown with the excitement of a victory is an explicating feeling. It is a one-of-a-kind tradition that must be witnessed and experienced to fully understand.

Chewacala State Park

A little slice of adventure smack dab in the middle of Opelika. A small climbable waterfall, multiple trails for hiking, and a small lake perfect for paddle board, swimming, or kayaking. Or take a ride on the mountain bike trail. There are endless spots for picnics and hanging out in hammocks. If you don't want to leave, you can always spend the night in the campground!

Abandoned Big Fish Movie Set

About an hour out of Auburn and a little past downtown Montgomery sits the abandoned set for the movie "Big Fish." Walk through the the town of Spectre and even into the houses that remain standing. Meet the new residents of the town's church which has been turned into a goat barn. This is a very quick afternoon trip that is well worth it! It only costs $3 a person!

Downtown Opelika

This sister town of Auburn holds a lot of history. This quaint little historic town is home to coffee shops such as Sidetrack Coffee. Eat at the delicious restaurants, and shop at the cool boutiques and other stores such as Music Town Records. Walk across the railroad tracks and check out the mural of Drew Holcomb painted on a wall next to a picturesque music venue that holds many up and coming artists. Only a short 15 minute drive from downtown Auburn!

Coffee Shops

Just like most college towns, Auburn has many coffee shops for you to choose from. If you want to be close to campus, Prevail Union on South College street is just a few steps from Samford. A few other around Auburn and Opelika include Coffee Cat, Sidetrack Coffee and the Bean. These coffee shops are great places to go hang out with friends, read a good book, or even study and do homework.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
