It’s finally that time of the year — spring break — which means midterms are happening, and the fear of graduation is slowly kicking in. You need this week more than anything — a week off from school, work and the daily struggle of thinking about what you’re going to do with your life.
Luckily, you planned a week of no stress and, hopefully, no cell phone service. You picked the perfect group to go with — a combination of the crazy friends and the more level-headed friends. You know, the ones who will keep you chugging but then the ones who will make sure you don’t end up on a missing person report. But wait, why didn’t you invite boys? That’s right, you wanted no stress. This girl’s vacation will be filled with memories you’ll always be talking about and lots and lots of tropical drinks.
Planning the week was stressful. You all saw yourselves on the beach with each other holding drinks in your hands, but the question was where? Bahamas, Cancun, Punta Cana, Miami — the choices felt endless. You obviously want to go someplace far away and warm, but you don’t want to break your bank account (more than likely your parents' bank account). You needed to find a place you know college students will go, I mean, of course your girls will suffice but the more the merrier, right? When looking for a resort, the first thing you had in mind was a nice view and an open bar. When you finally found the perfect place and paid the deposit, you felt at peace (and very excited).
But now, it’s crunch time. Spring break is here. Packing is the most frightening part — you always feel like you’re forgetting something, and that is the worst feeling. Imagine forgetting all your makeup and your birth control? Checklists are God’s gift so use one and trust me, you’ll be glad you did. Think of what clothing you’ll need — clothes for brunch, bathing suits for the beach, daytime outfits and dressy outfits for the club. Will you need clothes for the gym? Hopefully not, since you are on vacation. Anyway, after you have your clothes picked out, think about accessories. What jewelry should you bring? And, most importantly, what shoes? Lay out your outfits before you leave, don’t just throw everything in your suitcase and hope for the best. Plan. Don’t forget shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, a.k.a. all the things your mom won’t let you leave without. Most importantly don’t forget what you’ll need for the beach — beach towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, chapstick and, of course, a coozie.
I’ve heard it from numerous adults (well adults who are more adult than a college student) how spring break was the best time of their lives. No responsibility for a whole week, but once you get back to school, it’s more stressful than ever with resumes, job applications and figuring out what you’re going to do with your life. Take advantage of spring break, and make sure you make it a week to remember.
