After traveling many times and during all times of the year on planes and through multiple airports, you begin to get down a system of how to best pack, pass the travel time, and what snacks to pack.

The key to packing your carry-on bag is to think light and practical. You do not need 5 books to read in your carry-on bag; carry 1 or 2 books that you think you could really read on the plane and in the airport and either forget the rest or pack them in your checked bag. I always bring a couple of magazines in my carry-on as well because they are light and give you something easy to read during awkward wait times in the airport.

Next, pack anything that you could not go without for the next day; such as medication, glasses, phone/iPad/laptop and your chargers for all electronic devices. Also make sure to have hand sanitizer, tissues, and a mini stain stick.

To help maximize the charge and power on all your devices, make sure to power-up to 100% charge before leaving your house or hotel and bring a portable charger in case there are no free outlets. Also download any files or videos to watch that you might want the night before, so you don’t waste power doing so and then you’re all set to watch your next show on Netflix or review a paper on your laptop.

When you’re thinking of what you’ll do to pass your time, make sure you bring things that you will actually do. If you have never been a crossword person, don’t bring a book of crosswords just because you think you’ll do them when you’re waiting in the airport: you won’t.

Lastly, think of healthy and easy snacks that you can pack and that you will actually want to eat. Bring some fruit that will travel well, such as an apple, or if you’re traveling during lunch time, pack yourself a sandwich from home so that you save money in the airport on food. Stay hydrated by bringing an empty reusable water bottle that you can fill once you get past security.

For long or international trips, bring the neck pillow: your neck will thank you.

Traveling can be stressful, especially with multiple layovers, but by packing simply and being realistic about activities to pass your time, you will have a smoother and more enjoyable trip.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
