I Guess I'm A Makeup Guru Now

Who would have thought this would become my creative outlet?

I was always the type of girl who hated doing makeup. Like, eyeshadow? Never put that powder in my eye. Eyeliner? It's not just a phase, mom.

Suddenly, I began investing my time watching YouTube tutorials about anything makeup wise. I had the essentials, which was powder foundation and liquid/pencil eyeliner. Funny enough, it was the moment that I bought an $48.00 NARS bronzer, in Saks 5th Avenue in New York, that I decided to jump start on the makeup bandwagon.

My mistake though was beginning my obsession with high end makeup products. I couldn't wait to buy more, but more the really good stuff. So, I did. I went to New York six months after I purchased that bronzer and bought myself a NARS pressed powder for a decent price. Then came the Stila liquid eyeliner and the list continues.

The one problem was that I had no real foundation, eye shadow palette, I didn't know what contouring was, had no brushes, and most importantly, had no money. Nothing comes easy, and from what I learned with cosmetics, you have to literally start small. I skipped the "purchase drugstore products" part and went to investing in one good makeup product every once in a while. To not be completely out of the loop, I did head on over to my Target to buy some e.l.f products and brushes. Needless to say, e.l.f saved me from impulsively buying products for a while. I finally was able to purchase a real palette, the Naked 2 one, and my journey was off to a great start.

I began testing my somewhat "skills" on myself, best friend, and mom. Now, I only had three eyeshadow brushes and did not know what blending was. However, someway somehow, people still complemented me on how I did my eyes. It hit me then that maybe, if I kept trying, something good can come out of this new hobby. It also hit me that people really don't know how to do their makeup, so when they see other's work, it really is amazing and THAT is amazing. It is such a great way to express yourself, I couldn't wait to be more bold.

For a while, I only had one eyeshadow palette. Thank God Ashley Tisdale came out with an affordable makeup line because hello second palette. Not to be bias here (since Ashley is my favorite Disney star), but best purchase ever. I instantly fell in love with the darker shades of brown and wanted to start trying out more matte. By this point, I learned about primers, concealers, moisturizers, setting powders, highlighters, and more, so creating a full on look was a challenge I was looking forward to take.

Come today, I still don't have a lot of products, but I definitely have opened myself to the makeup work, especially Sephora. My most recent purchase was the Modern Renaissance palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills and I literally want to marry it. I love the color palette, the pigments, the matte and glitter shadows, and just everything about the once SOLD OUT nation wide palette.

To anyone who looks down on makeup or thinks it is a gateway to not loving our skin or not liking how we look bare, please take a moment to realize the creativity in this. I actually believe people who do practice doing makeup actually take care of their skin more since people are always looking towards having good skin. It doesn't go without saying that bare faced is bad. Obviously, once in a while, bare face is amazing. But if you want to glam up, even if it is for school, you do you. Nothing should stop you from expressing yourself artistically in this way. Also, if you think we do makeup to impress a "crush", let me set things straight by saying we do makeup to impress ourselves!

I challenge you to glam up and feel good about yourself once a month. I also challenge you to invest in your own good high products to have in case an emergency comes up.

I hope to see myself with killing it in the makeup game 10 years from now.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
