"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
It's such a simple question to ask and we hear it all the time. But finding an answer to it is not always that simple. For a lot of people, they face one of two situations: they reply that they don't know and get a disappointed look in return, or they say a certain career, and experience fake cheer from the person who posed the question to them. The fake cheer is often because the answer they gave is not what the other person expected. Sometimes the fake cheer is replaced with a sarcastic "good luck."
It's tough for people like us to figure out what we want to do. We go to school blissfully for about 10 years, then suddenly we have to sit down and figure out things such as what career we want for the rest of our life and how we're going to make a living for ourselves. There's no warning and there's no instruction manual.
I'm going to school for a major that I thought I would really enjoy, but right now, I'm a little hesitant. When people ask me what I want to be, I freeze. What do I tell them? I know I'm not alone in this hesitancy.
For the ones who don't know how to answer this difficult question, you're not alone. We're all still figuring things out, and there is nothing wrong with that. Be happy with what you do, even if it takes you a while to find out what that is.
