Some of the best memories I have from my childhood are those I spent with my cousins. My dad grew up in a family of seven, which means by default, my family is huge, and honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. I also have two awesome cousins on my mom's side.

1. I always had an older person to ask questions. Whether it be recommendations on places to eat or healthcare diagnoses, they always had answers.

2. Since they have been through it all, I now have a ton of relationship experts to go to for advice.

3. There was always someone willing to play with me growing up. Despite big age gaps, they would always play a game of Rush Hour or Monopoly with me.

4. I then got to rope in their significant others to play games with me, doubling the fun.

5. I always had people to take my side when I was trying to convince my parents of something.

6. I always got to participate in their big life moments. Some of my favorite memories are their graduation parties and weddings.

7. I had built-in travel buddies. Not many people can say their cousin took them to Spain when they were 15.

8. I always have places to travel to for the weekend! They always welcome me into their homes, feed me, and show me around the new place they call home.

9. I always had people to look up to. All of my cousins have been amazing role models to me. They inspire me to be a better person. They are all successful in their careers and are just great people all around.

10. Now they all have kids or are having kids, so I get to return the favor. I get to be the awesome cousin who plays games with them and hosts them for a weekend.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
