In This Article:

I have two siblings. Two brothers. Two OLDER brothers.

Life gets complicated.

If my brothers are reading this, hey brothers. I love y'all. But sometimes, I wish you two were girls.

This is my list of things you will only understand if you're the only girl in the family.

1. There's no such thing as YOUR food.

I've tried everything to save my leftovers. Writing my name, writing "DO NOT EAT" on the box, even hiding the food beneath the vegetables so my brothers' wouldn't find it. You learn to get creative.

2. Friends with a boy? Nah, he's your boyfriend.

No such thing as "male friends" in my house. I'll mention a boy's name and my brothers will stop what they're doing and start listening. Very protective.

3. If they need to use the restroom, my bathroom is never safe.

All I'm saying for this one is, I keep a lot of air fresheners in my bathroom.

4. They borrow little things, for no reason

Chargers? taken. Toothpaste? taken. Pillows? taken. They have all of these things in their room, but they just choose to use mine instead.

5. You argue over who's the favorite child.

I SWEAR, my brothers' are my parents' favorite children. My brothers SWEAR that I'm the favorite child. We fight over this more than we should.

6. You're known as _____'s sister.

I've lost count how many times I've been asked if I'm related to one of my brothers. It's the last name. Also, if a teacher in high school asked, I'm not related to them, never heard of them, I'm actually an only child. Unless the teacher liked them. Even in college, (which my brothers go to different colleges than I) I will get asked if I'm related to them. HOW?!

7. You meet some very cute friends over the years.

Yeah... the "brother's best friend" crush is a real thing.

8. And you know what guys want!

Having brothers can be useful sometimes, especially when you get into a relationship. You know what to do, and what not to do. Sometimes guys just want food and to watch sports. I get it. Having two brothers really puts things into perspective.

9. They're basically like bodyguards.

Somebody messing with me? They'll watch out for me. I've had my brothers threaten guys that I've brought to our house to hang out, for no reason. So if any guy does decide to cross me, I feel bad for them already.

10. And no matter what, they're always down for a good time.

Bored? They'll go do something with you. Hungry? They'll go eat. Wanna go out? They'll get the drinks, if you're legal ;).

Brothers are crazy, but I'm right along with their craziness. Sooner or later, they start to grow on you, and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
