Being a dancer, your childhood was unlike any other childhood. From your days of rushing to the studio, perfecting a bun and learning how to sew at an early age, your life revolved around dance. Your weekends were filled with competitions and your weekdays with rehearsals, you knew what fake eye lashes were at the age of 8 and you have a countless collection of old dance shoes that you can't seem to part with. Here are just a few signs that show you grew up as a dancer...
1. You had a second home.
Spending the majority of your days in the studio, you couldn't help but make yourself at home. It wasn't a problem when you left your shoes in your cubby, you didn't hesitate to go into the office for whatever you needed, and you were always comfortable just hanging around there. Most people just don't understand how lucky you were to have a home away from home.
2. You had a second family.
It was debatable if you spent more time in the studio or with your own family and naturally, your friends and teachers at this second home became like a family to you. You fought like siblings, laughed like best friends, guided each other like counsilors and at the end of the day, loved each other like family. Through thick and thin, these people provided you with support, love and a place to turn to.
3. Your drawers were overflowed with gear.
How many drawers did you devote to your dance wear? Three or four? And even still, they were overflowing. You had countless leotards in all the colors and styles one could imagine, all the tights in the world, warm up clothing, shorts, jazz pants, you name it! And don't forget about the piles of shoes in your closet and bobby pins on your counter that always seem to go missing.
4. You often break out in dance.
When a song to an old routine comes on, especially when your with your dance friends, you can't help but bust out the old steps. That muscle memory never seems to fail you. You can often be found shouting, "I danced to this song!" to your college friends in the car which are then followed by some familiar moves.
5. You had your ups and downs.
Dance isn't easy, but its something you have to have a passion for. After long rehearsals and dedication you left feeling proud or sometimes you left feeling down. When you just couldn't get that one combo, it was hard to leave with your head held high. But after much practice and hard work, you never failed to let a silly step come in the way of your relationship with dance.
6. You miss it like crazy.
If you're like me, you unfortunetly had to leave dance behind when you went to college. You miss your studio, friends and teachers every day, but most of all you just miss getting lost in the art of dance. And when some music comes on, you can't help but bust a move.
