Don't Fear The Pixie Cut Journey, Trust Me

Believe it or not, curly hair can totally rock pixie cuts.

Ever since I saw Emma Watson get her pixie cut in 2010, I’ve always wanted to get one. Although, I was always reluctant to because I had extremely unpredictable curly hair. I couldn’t imagine a pixie cut ever looking good on me. Well, Christmas of 2016 I said what the heck, and chopped off all of my hair. I originally had super gorgeous, long, curly hair. My hair had gotten so thick and so heavy, it became a huge annoyance and the weight of the hair gave me such awful headaches.

Summer 2016 I ended up cutting my hair to a nice shoulder length. I told my boyfriend to stop me on multiple occasions if I tried cutting my hair again. Of course, my stubborn-self goes, “I listen to no man!” then snip, snip. Bye, bye hair…

Well, Christmas time rolls around and I start feeling adventurous like all women do when they feel like their life is in a rut and they’re bored. So, I said to myself what the heck, let's chop the whole lot off into a pixie.

At first, I wasn’t sure how to style it, so I experimented a bit, braided the bangs, curled it, wore hats, and even attempted cheap hair extension from Amazon. It has now been exactly eight months since the big chop. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have horrible hair days, but even long hair had its ups and downs.

The only difference between having shorter hair and long hair is having to constantly buy hair ties to keep the long hairs out of my face.

In my opinion, if you’re too terrified about pixie cuts because your curly hair, it may not be for you. The thought of getting an immediate afro from cutting your curly hair is possible, but I took a risk. It’s better to hold off, then to regret a tremendous hair transformation. For those of you who are willing to take the risk, it’s a very rewarding feeling when you get it done.

Hair is hair, and it grows back faster than you think, although it takes a lot of patience. I'm eight months into growing out my pixie and by this time next year, my hair will be shoulder length again. So, do what feels right, pixies aren’t for everyone but I sure had a hell of a time rocking mine.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
