If you’re the only girl in your family, you will understand. Growing up as a young girl with two brothers, I would watch my friends and the relationships they shared with their sisters in awe of what it must be like to have a permanent go-to for dress-up and gossip.
However, as I have grown older, I learned that being the only girl in my family has made me particularly different than most girls and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way. To the girls who have grown up with just brothers, here’s to you:
Those of you who have a younger brother are probably guilty of forcing him to participate in whatever imaginative amusement you have planned for the day when your friends weren't around. In these desperate times of need for a dress-up buddy, my little brother knew he didn’t have a choice.
Let's face it, your Mom is probably on the same level of closeness with you as your friends are. Having no sisters means somebody's got to fill in the gap when in need of a place to vent. It definitely can't be your younger brother. He's for dress-up, remember? My mom is my go-to when in need of basically anything, but especially a best friend. I can only imagine that's what having a sister must be like.
Most girls with sisters have the luxury of having a closet other than their own when in need of an outfit. I have witnessed multiple catfights between my friends and their sisters over wearing each other's clothes. Trust me, it can get scary. However, the idea of having someone to even brawl over clothes with always seemed like fun to me.
Family movie nights will absolutely never consist of your favorite chick-flick, maybe with the exception of "White Chicks." I have learned that there is no debate when it comes to choosing between "John Tucker Must Die" and "Fast And Furious." While it may seem annoying, thanks to my two brothers, I have seen every Marvel movie known to man.
So, while plenty of girls grew up playing with dolls and painting their nails, I spent my days trying to keep up with the chaos and adventures my brothers involved me in. I have scars on my legs from falling from trees, a keen interest in Call Of Duty, and an embedded tomboy alter-ego within. So, shoutout to my brothers for keeping me on-the-go, teaching me how to enjoy adventure, and being my forever friends, minus debates over clothes.
