The best and worst place to grow up.

Growing up in Dansville, New York, you know a few things to be true. Even though we live in what seems like the smallest town imaginable, we make the most out of it and try to always find something fun to do. That being said, below is a list of things you know to be true if you grew up or live in Dansville.

1. You or someone you know lives on a farm.

Basically anywhere you look in Dansville, there are farms and farm land.

2. Middleton's opening day is basically another holiday.

It's the best place to get ice cream all throughout the summer, and everyone knows it. It's almost tradition to get some on their opening day.

3. The Dogwood fest is the "beginning of summer" and it makes you so happy.

Between the book sale, sports games, carnival and parade... there's always something to do during this week. Also, it gets you excited for the summer to begin because, usually, the weather is pretty decent throughout the entire week.

4. Seeing someone you know literally any time you leave the house.

If you're going to the store, chances are high that you'll run into at least three friends, some family members and possibly even an old teach of yours by the time you leave.

5. Always wanting to explore the castle on the hill, but scared of getting caught.

You look at it every day and constantly and wonder what's inside. Some have ventured into the abandoned building, but most haven't. This is primarily due to the police threat if you get caught, since it is illegal.

6. Going to Winter in the Village and having it make you 100,000 times more excited for the Holidays.

This event is the perfect kickoff for the holidays, as long as it isn't ten below zero. With the horse drawn carriages, ice sculptures, lit Christmas trees, and Christmas characters walking around, it adds that extra flair to the holidays.

7. Spending so much time in the summer swimming anywhere possible at Stony Brook State Park.

Being that it's the closest state park to Dansville, it's the perfect place to spend hot, summer days at. Between picnics, hiking, and swimming, this park has all you need for a fun summer day outside. You can even swim around the waterfalls or the swimming holes throughout the trails that are all throughout the park.

8. Always going to the Hillclimb, even if it's 200 degrees outside, just for the excuse to hang out with friends all day.

Even if you're not into the sport aspect of the day, it's a great opportunity to just hang out and spend time with your friends or family. Most people spend the entire day there and some even set up tents and barbecue all throughout the event.

9. Hating the fact that you have to drive a good distance to go to any good stores, but you do it anyway.

Based on the fact that there's virtually nowhere that you can go on a shopping spree, you drive at least an hour to shop. Honestly, you don't even care because it gets you out of town.

10. Even though it basically marks the end of the summer, the Balloon Festival is the best event that happens all year.

This event is basically the end of summer and the beginning of the school year, but honestly, who cares? Weather permitting, you get to see tons of hot air balloons filling the air and go to a festival that has vendors and food. What more can you ask for?

11. Having a love/hate relationship with the fact that you're from Dansville.

Even though you live in a small town, you make it work and find new ways to love it every day.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
