Leaving the comfort of your parent’s home is one of the scariest things that any person can do. It forces you to grow up. For some people, that could mean going to college, near or far. That could mean getting their own apartment. Whatever being independent means for you, you should try your best to make it happen. Will you get scared? Sure, of course you will. But in order for you to be successful in life, you have to do what is necessary for you. Try, and if at first you don't succeed, try again.

Never allow your fears to prohibit you from doing something. If you don't try, you will always be filled with regret. If you want to become independent, you will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

I get that not everyone has the strength to do this, though. You may want to always be with your parents, but that is not realistic or practical. You need to learn to be on your own so that you can grow into the amazing, confident, strong, independent person you can be. Sitting around and complaining will get you nowhere in life. You have to get out there.

Don’t throw away good opportunities just because you’re scared, or because you don't want to leave your parents, or whatever else might be preventing you from doing something that could potentially help you in the long run.

At the end of the day, you have to do what is best for you. Really take all of this into consideration. Don’t be like those other people who just sit around and complain and don't make changes. Get out there and be the best, most independent person possible.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
