What Is Said In The Group Chat Stays In The Group Chat

Truth is, if you and your closest friends don’t have a group chat … where does your friendship really stand? The group chat is a sacred place of pictures and stories that quite simply should never be told to anyone else. These are the people you trust most with the ugliest of all moments, and the people you cannot turn on “do not disturb” in fear of missing the slightest moment. The group chat defines who your best friends are, for they know your worst moments and yet still choose to call you a friend.

Honestly, the group chat is the one place that everyone always understands. Your stupid mistakes, random rants, and heartfelt emotions are always accepted. These are your people, no matter the circumstances. All of a sudden 295 unread messages hold the reasons for your friendship. So, here is a list of texts found in every group chat, or at least the ones doing it right:

1. Food?

The constant struggle of wanting to be in shape and always being hungry is so real. The amount of times food is mentioned in this group chat should be concerning.

2. What are we doing tonight?

Making plans can sometimes seem impossible and is usually more stressful than it should be, but going out without each other just doesn’t seem right. I mean, who else are you supposed to embarrass yourself with?

3. What are you guys wearing? So, can I borrow your entire wardrobe, please?

If you are going out, you are planning to turn heads. You spend about an hour choosing outfits for one another and all deciding what kind of night it is going to be. These are your ride-or-die fashion spectators. Plus, without them you wouldn’t have clothes to wear. Once in a group chat, your closet quadruples in size.

4. Guys, what happened last night?

Honestly, you probably sent a play-by-play of your worst night to these people and they more than likely questioned why they like you, but chances are they simply saved those photos to an album dedicated to all your embarrassing moments. Moments that they will never fail to bring up in the future

5. Is this a good Insta? Caption?

Until now, you didn’t realize how basic you and your friends are. No picture goes without the approval of the people you know are bound to be the first likes and comments on your pending post. The work that goes into posting should really be spent elsewhere, but no good friend is going to let your Insta game suffer.

6. Guys, what do I do?

This question simply applies to all aspects of life. You cannot do anything on your own without asking if you are awkward or weird. You probably have annoyed the hell out of your friends by asking the most insignificant questions, but they still love you anyways.

7. Cue the rant that follows these questions when something didn’t go as planned.

That guy you were after totally is not interested and now you feel like the biggest idiot in the world ... time to open the group chat. That one girl in the class that never shuts up ... open the group chat. Time and time again these people are ready to hear whatever it is you have to go off on at that moment.

8. Then cue the tweet or picture that only these friends would understand.

When scrolling through twitter or Instagram, everything starts to remind you of these people, and you feel the constant need to send everything you relate to in the group for them to see as well.

9. LOL “Sorry I’m so annoying.”

Two hundred texts later, once you are done ranting and asking a million questions on how to approach a situation, you apologize for being the nuisance that you are, but feeling satisfied with the fact that you still haven’t been removed from the conversation.

10. Thank you, guys, for being you, and for loving me no matter what is said in the group chat.

At the end of the day, we all appreciate the people who have seen and heard it all. These people live your life with you vicariously through text message and are the reason you are able to make it by. They love you no matter how many times they have seen your 40 chins or the amount of times you have talked about the same guy. Most importantly, these people love you enough to leave what is said in the group chat, in the group chat. And for that, you should love them even more.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
