Often overshadowed by the heinous actions of the Jewish Genocide (a.k.a. The Holocaust), the Armenian Genocide, denied by many of the Turkish and unknown by a majority of the public, is a historical event that should never be concealed. Occurring between 1915 and 1917, the Armenian Genocide resulted in the death of 1.5 million Armenians.
A magnificent, yet tragic, account of the Armenian Genocide is in the novel The Hundred-Year Walk: An Armenian Odyssey by Dawn Anahid MacKeen. The novel alternates between two different stories: the struggle of Stepan Miskjian's escape from the internment camps during the Armenian Genocide and the journey of his granddaughter, and author of this book, Dawn MacKeen, as she follows the footsteps of Stepan through the help of his journals' accounts of the war nearly a century later.
Since the publication of this novel, knowledge of this heartbreaking event has increased. For those of you who haven't read the novel or are not familiar with the Armenian Genocide, here are a few photos that reveal the harsh reality of the event.
