In The Grey, We Must Pray

A Christlike freedom found through a prayerful heart.

The Holy Bible was not written for the sake of your convenience. Unfortunately, our world has created a tainted perception where we as individuals believe that validations for our actions can be based upon interpretations contrived to suit current circumstances. This to say, in what shade do you find yourself reading your Bible? Would you scan through to find it being black and white, or perhaps a shade of grey? To answer this question literally, most would state that the print within his or her copy of The Holy Bible appears to be black and white. However, from a spiritual standpoint, the concept of blurring distinct parameters instilled by our Lord and Savior can present itself much more convicting.

It was once told to me, “in the grey, we must pray.” As Christians, we all have areas wherein we ‘toe the line,’ and to argue against such is to argue oneself as un-human. The points within your life that continually present themselves as being a struggle are not to be dismissed, but rather addressed head on. While combatting said transgressions is far from painless, an attitude where struggles are swept aside does nothing more than allow for a continual flow of evil to seep into our lives, thus creating an even more apparent grey. I’ll be the first to admit that focusing one’s prayer life on the messy areas is any thing but glamorous. Though, let us not neglect the power of our Savior and the ability He has to guide us back to the black and white, an area where He can be honored with all exuberance.

As we discuss, let it be noted that the idea of the Bible being “black and white” is often argued to be promoting a seemingly “legalistic” thought process; aiding to the opinion that there is a dependence on law rather than on faith. To this I will state, the boundaries set in place by our Savior were not created to restrict, but rather to obtain an even greater freedom whereas one can exercise a lifestyle that is honoring and glorifying to the Kingdom. Our souls feed off of selfish ambition, allowing for the Bible to be easily misinterpreted in hopes of meeting the needs and/or wants that our human nature may crave. Nonetheless, by guarding our hearts with the Scriptures in their proper form, one can protect themselves from a powerful negotiator disguised in the color grey.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
