There are many things you learn when growing up on the lake. Some may be useful later in life and some may only be needed at the lake. But whether they are useful or not, you know what to do and when to do it.
1. How to swim
Duh. If you grew up there you have to learn to swim.
2. How to dock a boat
Until you're able to drive the boat yourself you have to help dock the boat. That means telling the driver which way they need to steer, when to cut the boat off, and how to tie the boat up.
3. How to drive a boat
You have to learn so you can throw your friends off the tube.
4. How to keep from falling (flying) off the tube
You know how the different ways to lean, pull, and twist to keep from flying into next week.
5. How to bait a hook
When you grow up on the lake you have to be able to bait your own hook. How else will you be able to win the fishing tournament between you and the rest of your family?
6. How beautiful the sunset is over the lake
There is nothing like sitting out by the water and watching the sunset over the lake.
7. Where everything Is
There is no doubt that if you've been on the water your whole life you know where every turn will take you and the best place to eat on the water.
8. Everyone loves the lake
You bring your friends up with you because they love to swim, fish, celebrate holidays, and spend time on the water just like you.
9. 4th of July is Important
Speaking of celebrating holidays you always go up for Memorial Day, Labor Day, and especially the 4th of July. Your whole family and your friends come up for ribs, potatoes, rolls, and homemade ice cream. When it gets dark everyone gathers to watch fireworks.
10. There is no better place to spend your summer nights
You know that the lake is the best place to be during the summer and pretty much any other time.
Rain or shine the water will always be like a second home to you. Whether you've lived there all your life or for just a few years these things are sure to be true to you.
