Greetings to 2017

A little welcome letter to the new year

Greetings to 2017

In all honesty, I have been waiting for this year to roll around for a while now. 2016 just wasn't enough for me to handle at one time. Yes, even with some ups the downs had an impact not just on me, but on the rest of the world too. With everyone we've lost from Alan Thicke to David Bowie, I think the world has suffered enough. With our new elected president and all the different opinions revolving around that, I think the world has suffered enough. With everyone's lives outside of the news, I think the world has suffered enough of 2016.

Everyone will have different goals and resolutions for the new year, for 2017. Some of them may be simple but won't follow through, others will go with it and succeed. The rest of the world won't want to make goals and resolutions just so the world can throw whatever it wants at them and take the year by storm. Most of the time that's the best option just so you don't get your hopes up on some expectations you might of had.

Some of these simple goals may include wanting to start a diet to lose weight, start a new hobby since your previous one might be getting too old for you, and so on and so forth. Harder ones might be things on your bucket list like going sky diving or going to a country you've never been to before. Half of that might have to do with money you might not have (let's admit, we are all poor one way or another).

In short, we are all probably just praying for 2017 to be the best year of their lives and pray it's going to be better than 2016. So farewell 2016, you have done us well and done us dirty and it's time to put most of you in the past. 2017, it's your turn to shine and I hope you do us good and give us all you got and I feel the rest of the world feels the same way.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
