There's More To Greenwood Nightlife Than You Think

If you've never been to Buffalo's of Greenwood on a Thursday night or a Saturday then certainly don't tell me there is no nightlife in Greenwood, SC.

I live in Greenwood South Carolina and go to school here. I can not count how many times someone has said "I bet there's nothing to do there for fun." While Greenwood is fairly small and my college isn't that big, I still have had some pretty terrific nights here. It baffles me how no one is willing to give little old Greenwood any credit that it so rightfully deserves. Those who say we have "nothing" to do and no where to "go out" clearly overlook our beloved Sports Break, Oxygen, and Buffalo's.

I have friends at other schools and I'm not saying I haven't had fun there, but a lot of the time I can say I've had just as much fun here or close to it. This surprises my friend's from home or my friends from other schools who haven't experienced one of the better nights because they can't see any potential fun taking place in the Emerald City.

I have met some incredible people here who know how to have a good time that I wouldn't trade for the world. While it's important to have a fun place to go and the surrounding schools have that for sure, it's also important to meet groups of people who want to have a fun. I have found that countless times in Greenwood. There are always people dancing, singing at top of their lungs, and even a few braver characters who don't mind hopping up on a table or two. When it's all over there are always groups of people

If you've never been to Buffalo's of Greenwood on a Thursday night or a Saturday then certainly don't tell me there is no night life in Greenwood, SC. At other schools their larger so there are people dispersed all over the place participating in different things. In Greenwood one of our only options, but also one of the best is Buff's. Everyone you know is there. You don't need to text that kid from your Math class and ask what he's up tonight because I can already tell you if he's doing anything he's going to Buff's. So not only are all your favorite people in one spot, but there is always someone there playing a fire playlist and everyone is dancing. It's a place where mostly college students or people 18 or old can come together after a rough week.

Safety is something you have to worry about anywhere, but I have seen few serious altercations or insane things happening on a night out in Greenwood or at Buff's versus surrounding schools. I always feel fairly safe on a night out here, but also not super restricted where no one can enjoy themselves either. I always see everyone just minding their business and having a great time.

I'm not saying Greenwood is perfect by any means or the place everyone wants to be, but more happens here than you think. There have been a lot of great nights and memories made in this town. Though we're a small city and could always use a few more things to do or a few more places to go, personally, I think we're on the come up.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
