Recently came across this a trailer for Greenbook and I have to say it looks like it'll be part of the Oscar discussions. Maybe nothing for best picture or anything but thinking more along the lines of Best Supporting Actor, and I'm looking at Viggo Mortenson's character in the film.
Greenbook is about an Italian-American bouncer (Viggo Mortensen) and an African-American pianist (Mahershala Ali) who confront racism and danger while taking a road trip through the Deep South in 1962. The movie involves the late Don Shirley, a virtuoso pianist who played a variety of genres with an apparent sound of a trained musician. Don Shirley also studied and proved that certain tonal sounds affected the audience's reaction. The movie stars Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Luke Cage, House of Cards, Hidden Figures), Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Captain Fantastic), and Linda Cardellini (Scooby-Doo, Freaks and Geeks, Bloodline), and is directed by Peter Farrelly (Dumb & Dumber, There's Something About Mary, Me, Myself, & Irene, Shallow Hal).
From the looks of the trailer, Viggo Mortensen really might get a little more recognition as an actor for this role. Always appreciated Viggo Mortensen as an actor, and I think this role might put him into an Oscar conversation. He sounds and looks the part and seems to work well with Mahershala. But honestly, it all depends on the movie entirely. I can only say so much about the trailer. And great to see Mahershala in a little different role than I'm used to. While he does always the stoic rock for most of his roles, while Don Shirley in the movie seems like a stoic rock, it seems a little different than most of the roles he gets. In any case, I'm definitely looking forward to checking this one out.
Check out the trailer up above if you missed it!
