With regular-season NFL football just days away, I’ve decided to reflect on my favorite team; the Green Bay Packers. I may be a little biased considering I grew up 30 minutes away from Lambeau field and was essentially born wearing green and yellow; but nevertheless, here are the reasons why I believe the Packers hold the title of the best franchise in the NFL.
Their fans are fiercely loyal. Fans pack the stadium every Sunday rain, sleet, or snow. They also can be seen sporting their beloved cheeseheads.
Most of the players are forever loyal to the Pack too. After retirement, Donald Driver said would come back to play just for the Pack if they needed him.
“I love the game, but I only love one team. When you love the game, you’ll play for anybody. Anybody who offers you something, you’re willing to step on the field and play for them. I decided that I love one team.”
The Packers are the only community-owned sports organization in the whole United States. 360,584 fans own a share of the team. How cool is that?
Lambeau Field is electrifying and arguably one of the best stadiums to take in an NFL game. At my first game it was snowing and the temperature was below freezing, but it was still an unbelievable experience.
The Packers won the first two superbowls and Green Bay is known as “Titletown” because of it.
The players are homegrown. On the current roster, only one Packer (Julius Peppers) has played a game for another team; the rest have played every game for Green Bay.
Some of the players starred in Pitch Perfect 2. Well hello eye candy! They don’t just name the Superbowl Trophy after any team’s coach. The trophy is named after Green Bay’s coach from 1959-1967, Vince Lombardi.
“God, family, and the Green Bay Packers-in that order.”
The fans feel like part of the team. You may think it’s weird when a fan uses the pronoun “we” when talking about their favorite team (i.e. “Thank God we have Aaron Rodgers”) but for us it’s normal.
The Packers have played in their original city, Green Bay, longer than any other team in the NFL.
Fans are so eager to see them that season tickets have been sold out since 1960. The average wait for a season ticket? 40 years. Not only do Wisconsinites love the Pack, but famous people do too. Some notable fans include Lil’ Wayne, Harry Styles, Ellen DeGeneres, Will Ferrell, Justin Timberlake, and Ryan Reynolds.
After a touchdown, players jump up into the stands for a Lambeau Leap. Seriously though, what other team lets their fans actually celebrate with them after scoring?
These are some of the reasons why I love the Packers both as a team and an organization. So now let the season begin!GO PACK GO!
