Greek Of The Week: Macy Reeves

Greek Of The Week: Macy Reeves

Every week, we choose one student in Georgia Southern’s Greek community who exemplifies Greek ideals. It is important to us that we celebrate the great people who show off their talents and build us up. This week, our Greek Of The Week is Macy Reeves. She is a junior, a psychology major with minors in sociology and religious studies and a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon.

Reeves joined Delta Phi Epsilon in the spring of 2013 and has worked to become an active member of our Greek community and of Georgia Southern University ever since. In her freshman year, Reeves was chosen to be a Georgia Southern Lead Scholar. She was a recruitment counselor during the last Panhellenic Formal Recruitment and is a Diversity Peer Educator with the Multicultural Student Center. Along with all of her commitments, Reeves also works at the Russell Union as a desk assistant.

Even with her busy schedule outside of DPhiE, Reeves still remains an active sister within her organization. She has served as public relations coordinator, historian, and risk management coordinator. She also is a regular contributor to her chapter’s blog , Sweet, Southern, and DPhiE.

When asked what her favorite part of being a recruitment counselor is, Macy responded, “Watching the girls fall in love with a house and a sisterhood that I knew loved them back!”

Reeves says that she decided to become a sorority woman because she wanted to make difference. The Gamma Omicron chapter of DPhiE specifically spoke to her because she “saw potential for us to change the campus.” Reeves is also very passionate about her sorority's three philanthropies, specifically ANAD -- which stands for Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. When asked why ANAD is special to her she said that, “the concept of a sisterhood whose intentions is to promote the wellness of ourselves and others amazed me."

After graduation, Reeves hopes to use her psychology degree to work for a social media company, and she is currently pursuing a public relations internship with Google. So, thank you, Macy Reeves for everything you do. Here at The Odyssey, we wish you the best of luck and encourage you to keep exemplifying our values!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
