Greek Life Teams Up To Make-A-Wish Come True

Last year, the Cal Lambda chapter of Phi Kappa Psi raised $8,000 through the Make-A-Wish Foundation in order to make a wish come true. The wish was for a five-year-old leukemia survivor named Darian who wanted to go on a Disney cruise through the Bahamas with his family. The goal of $8,000 was reached through a puppy fundraiser, raffle, and online donations. After this successful accomplishment, Phi Kappa Psi is on a mission to make another wish come true this year. The fraternity of Phi Kappa Psi and the lovely ladies of Alpha Phi are teaming up to raise $10,000 for a ten-year-old girl named Aliana.

Aliana was diagnosed with Costello Syndrome when she was a baby, but is able to keep a wonderful attitude despite her everyday complications. Aliana wishes to visit Disney's Aulani Resort in Hawaii where she will have the time of her life while meeting her favorite Disney characters. More information can be found through the Make-A-Wish website where you can also provide a donation!

The Make-A-Wish Foundation's mission is to "grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy." Something they are known for is working actively with ESPN and you may have seen one of the wishes they have been able to make come true. Many kids have been granted their wish of meeting their favorite player and being able to visit the stadium of their favorite team. These stories are inspiring and it's awesome to see these kids who have gone through so much adversity do something they have always wanted to do.

According to their website, The Make-A-Wish Foundation San Diego chapter operates under the BBB Wise Giving Alliances's Standards for Charity Accountability. This year, their budget is $2.8 million and the goal is to grant 205 wishes. Phi Kappa Psi and Alpha Phi are excited to work with the Make-A-Wish San Diego chapter and make one of those 205 wishes come true.

In addition to online donations, Phi Kappa Psi and Alpha Phi plan on doing another puppy fundraiser, a food fundraiser held at the Alpha Phi sorority house, and a fundraiser at Oggi's Pizza Express during the course of the semester. Whether you make a donation online or participate in one of these exciting fundraisers, you can make a difference in Aliana's life. Both organizations are excited and ready to commit 100% of their energy in order to see Aliana's dream come true, but we can't do it without your help!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
