Greek Life Gets No Love Like College Sports Do

Does your university just care about making money through their sports?

I spent my first two years of college at a community college in Augusta and then transferred to Kennesaw State University in 2013 to get the full college experience. It's been three years and I'm finally getting the college experience that I've been seeking. I have experience as a student-athlete and I also have experience with the Greek community.

As a student at a major university, I feel like Kennesaw State and other universities worldwide focus on making money through athletics way more than student organizations. Students who don't participate in athletics deserve an awesome college experience too. Let me give you some reasons why I feel like the student organizations (Greek Life) get no love.

1. Are you ready for some football?

Kennesaw State announcing that they were getting a football team in 2015 was the most highly anticipated thing coming to the city of Kennesaw ever. Everyone was so excited that Kennesaw State was getting a football team. Even the patients at my job were talking about it when they found out I attend school here. Football is the most polarized sport whether it's high school, college or professional. Football, especially college football, will always have a good turnout. So what about the people who don't like sports? What else is there to do for us college students to be active and engaged that can get about the same support that sports do?

2. How quick they are to take away a chapter

If you're in a fraternity or a sorority you will truly connect with this one. I'm a Sigma Nu and we're anti-hazing, but why is that in sports they can haze their new teammates and/or if they break the rules the university will do everything in their power to cover it up? If any sorority or fraternity hazed their pledges, that university will come down on them so fast and suspend them from campus for two years. Why can't we get a warning like the athletes get? Don't act like they get warnings either because I know. I was a student-athlete, as well.

3. We're all about KSU but is KSU all about Sigma Nu or any other Greek Life?

During orientation, I was being sold on academics (which is important), the commons, the new and improved rec center and last but not least, the sports teams that they have. Any sorority and fraternity will tell you about their philosophy and hard work for a week to raise money for a chapter, or the charity work that we constantly do to get a good name not only for ourselves but our respected university. Can we get some love too? How about you stop spamming our emails with junk mail and sports events and send emails about supporting whatever organization's event like you do with the basketball game or football game?

Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
