The release of the newest movie, "The Greatest Showman," showcases the magic behind the imagination of the notorious P.T. Barnum.
Along with the incredibly choreographed dance scenes and the soundtrack that is easily played on repeat on the way home from the movie, "The Greatest Showman" speaks not only the story of P.T. Barnum himself, but messages that apply to today’s current world.
The first message that the movie gives is equality, treating everyone with the same respect. No matter their gender, race, age, or physical appearance. P.T. Barnum employs people who have been outcasted by society based off of one deformity or abnormality. Barnum does not treat them any differently, or refer to them as “freaks” as many of the townspeople do throughout the movie.
Barnum teaches us to be kind, to all people.
Along with this message of equality, the performers gain confidence in who they are. Barnum appreciates all of her performers, and he shows that in the simplest way of giving them hope for the future. Barnum tells them, “They don’t know it yet, but America is going to love you.” As the movie progresses many of the characters possess confidence that allows them to love themselves for all the things that society does not.
Barnum teaches us to be proud of who we are, no matter what society says.
The movie also tells us that money and social class are not the most important things. As the circus becomes more successful, it is clear that the money begins to go to Barnum’s head. Barnum was so adamant about proving Charity’s parents wrong with their first opinion of him that he would arise to nothing, eventually he becomes one of the biggest socialites in all of New York. He also begins to become careless with the show when the temptation of fame and money with taking Jenny Lind on tour come his way.
Barnum teaches us to never forget where we came from, and that money should not be the center of our lives.
Lastly, the movie tells us that with hard work one can become successful, no matter where they first started in life. In his childhood days, Barnum was simply an assistant to his father who was a poor tailor. He decided to take a risk on starting his own museum which eventually transformed into his show. With hard work, he rose to the top, and become one of the most famous showman of all time.
Barnum teaches us that if you work hard, you will go far.
"The Greatest Showman" is a must see that will not only deliver important messages that relate to today’s world, but also a movie that will inspire all of its viewers to believe in the magic of everyday, and to let their imagination run wild.
Finally, Zac Efron (enough said).
