In our new age of technology, I must admit that I am a total book worm, I absolutely love reading and I always have. I always enjoyed engrossing myself in lives and stories that were not my own.I have always sought comfort and advice from the books that I read and feel as though sometimes the author says exactly what I need to hear. Out of all the books I have read, which for my age I think is quite a lot, these are the lines that have stuck out to me the most.

1. “I can’t explain what I mean. And even if I could, I’m not sure I’d feel like it.” -J.D Salinger, "The Catcher in the Rye"

2. "How wild it was, to let it be." - Cheryl Strayed, "Wild"

3. “I have always thirsted for knowledge, I have always been full of questions.” - Hermann Hesse, "Siddhartha"

4. “The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly.” -F. Scott Fitzgerald, "The Great Gatsby"

5. "Isn't it pretty to think so?" - Ernest Hemingway, "The Sun Also Rises"

6. "You are your best thing." - Toni Morrison, "Beloved"

7. "Anyone who ever gave you confidence, you owe them a lot." -Truman Capote, "Breakfast At Tiffany's"

8. "Sometimes we get sad about things and we don't like to tell other people that we are sad about them. We like to keep it a secret. Or sometimes, we are sad but we really don't know why we are sad, so we say we aren't sad but we really are." -Mark Haddon, "A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time"

9. “She wasn’t doing a thing that I could see, except standing there leaning on the balcony railing, holding the universe together.” - J.D Salinger, "A Girl I Knew"

10. “And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.” -John Steinbeck, "East of Eden"

11. "And in that moment, I swear we were infinite." - Stephen Chbosky, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower"

12. “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” - Anne Frank, "The Diary of Anne Frank"

13. "Stay gold, Ponyboy." - S.E Hinton, "The Outsiders"

14. “You can't eat the orange and throw the peel away - a man is not a piece of fruit.” - Arthur Miller, "Death of a Salesman"

15. “You cannot stop you from being who you are.” - Khaled Hosseini, "A Thousand Splendid Suns"

16. “The sun burnt every day. It burnt time.” -Ray Bradbury, "Fahrenheit 451"

17. “Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.” - John Green, "The Fault in Our Stars"

18. "I can't go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.” - Lewis Carroll, "Alice in Wonderland"

19. "You call yourself a free spirit, a 'wild thing,' and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself.” - Truman Capote, "The Breakfast Club"

20. “We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”- J.K Rowling, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"

21. “I hope she'll be a fool -- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald, "The Great Gatsby"

Books contain such beautiful and powerful words if you give them the chance. Put down the phone, open a book, and let the words teach you and change your life for the better.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
