One of the very best things of living in a small town for college is all of the locally owned restaurants. You can walk through any part of downtown and find a delicious meal. Lexington, Virginia has so many amazing places to eat. Here are just a few of my favorites. Whether you are looking for a quick bite to eat or nice night out, you can’t go wrong here.
Southern Inn
I am a tour guide for my university and every time I am asked for dinner suggestions, I tell them that Southern Inn’s fried chicken played a role in me applying Early Decision. The food is updated southern classics and is phenomenal. The restaurant is always filled up with reservations during Parent’s Weekend. Pro tip: they also make their own ice cream if you are in the mood for desert.
The Palms
This is my favorite restaurant to go to for lunch in town. They serve all sorts of burgers, salads and various entrees. I really like their fish tacos. Their fries are also fantastic. My roommate says they have the best Reuben in town. Plus, they don’t need reservations so it is great for last minute nights out.
Nikos
Nikos is the Greek restaurant in town, which also happens to be a great breakfast option. You can choose to enjoy their hummus, gyros or kabobs if you are in the mood for lunch. If you go for breakfast, they have fantastic French toast and all the other classics you would expect. They also have refills on ice coffee, and that can’t be beat.
Bistro
If you want to dress up and have a nice meal out, Bistro is the place to be. Their beer bread is some of the best bread I have ever had. The table always eats it quickly and asks for more. They also have great brunches. I recommend the eggs benedict. This is another restaurant that will fill up fast with reservations for busy weekends. So if you want to eat there, act fast.
Pure Eats
Pure Eats has a very simple menu of natural, locally grown food. They are known for their burgers, doughnuts and milkshakes. They are always having running promotions on their social media accounts for lunch specials or free doughnut giveaways. The blueberry doughnut is my personal favorite, but you can’t go wrong with homemade sweets.
This is just a handful of the awesome dining options around town. The true list of great restaurants is much longer. There are so many more places to get coffee, ice cream, and sandwiches galore. If you find yourself in little old Lexington, be sure to stay for a bite. You will leave full and happy.
