Mexico in itself is a relaxing getaway where, if you travel to the right places, you are guaranteed an amazing experience. I may be a little biased, but everywhere I have gone has lived up to its expectations. As far as I know, Cancun is beautiful but there are so many other gorgeous places that can be visited and for less money. Here are five places I feel are go-to's if planning a trip to Mexico.
Disclaimer: All these places are in the state of San Luis Potosi. Although there are great places all over Mexico, these are the places that are of most relevance to me.
1. Las cascadas de Tamasopo (The Tamasopo Waterfalls)
Located in Tamasopo, San Luis Potosi, these breathtakingly natural falls are one of a kind. The moment you step foot there you can feel the amazing breeze just shizzle your skin. Looking to your left, there is this rope you can swing off of and you literally feel like you are flying through paradise. This was my favorite thing to do as a child.
On the more adventurous side, there are some steep, steep, rock stairs that can be taken towards the back of the fall to go explore the origin of the fall. It is Mexico, so of course you have your amazing street foods all around the area in case you get hungry after a long day of relaxation and fun.
2. El puente de Dios (Bridge of God)
Also located in Tamasopo, San Luis Potosi, this natural, deep blue cavern is home to one of the most spectacular views in this area. It's majestic, turquoise scenery leaves anyone wondering how such nature can be created, which is where it gets its name from. It is considered a cultured area that, to some, is even sacred, almost close to God.
Although there is about 300 steps down that have to be walked, the exhaustion is totally worth it once you get to the finish line. The water is freezing but the immense relaxation you get when you are in the water compares to no other.
3. Tamul
Home to one of the most beautiful and amazing waterfalls there is in Mexico, Tamul is located in San Luis Potosi as well. I know I am completely biased since my parents are from San Luis, but it is also fact. This indescribably stunning waterfall is on many people's bucket list.
This is the tallest waterfall in the state measuring 105 meters (344.5 feet). To get the full experience, there are canoes available that allow you to tour over the river until reaching the destination. This trip has been one of my favorites.
4. Real de Catorce (Real Fourteen)
As odd as the name sounds, it has a religious meaning behind it. This town is known as a "ghost" town because of its population of 1000 and is located north of San Luis. The primary attraction is its history of being a former silver mining. It is located on the side of a mountain about 9000 feet up.
Because of this, the weather can get hot in the summer but it usually has cool nights. If you are on the adventurous side, you can pay for a tour guide to take you on a horseback ride up the mountain where there are some historic ruins.
Overall, this city is my favorite that I have visited. Nothing compares to the diverse tourists and the hospitality.
Although there are so many other places I would love to ramble on about, these four have been some of my favorite places to visit. Each is special in its own way and each holds such great memories from my childhood. I hope that one day people can be more aware of the unforgettably gorgeous scenery Mexico has to offer.
