I don’t know about you guys, but one of my favorite things about watching a movie is the music. The scores (for study music) and the soundtrack. I discovered some of my favorite artists through my favorite movies. I thought of my favorite movies, that have wonderful soundtracks (some that are even better than the movie itself).
Here are the top 10!
1. "Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist"
A good ol’ cute teen love movie. A young couple who are brought together through their love of music, of course, the soundtrack is amazing. Also, Michael Cera. Need I say more? My favorite songs on it are “Little Motel” by Modest Mouse and “You Sexy Thing” by Hot Chocolate.
2. "(500) Days of Summer"
ANOTHER good rom-com about a couple brought together through their taste in music. You made need some tissues or something to throw with this movie but it is definitely worth the emotions. Also, if any movie includes people going to a record store for a date, it has a great soundtrack. My favorite songs from this heartbreaker include “You Make My Dreams” by Hall & Oates and “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want” by The Smiths.
3. "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"
An 80s classic. Who doesn’t love a good 80’s movie? People who have a bad taste in music. My favorite songs included “We Got The Beat” by The Go-Go’s and “Somebody’s Baby” by Jackson Browne.
4. "The Breakfast Club"
You know you agree with me on this one because I just got “Don’t You Forget About Me” stuck in your head. Need I say more? 80’s movies have some of the best music ever. Another great song from this John Hughes classic is “We Are Not Alone” by Karla Devito.
5. "Footloose"
Another 80s movie, but not just any 80s movie. It’s a movie about dancing. I can’t even pick favorite songs from this movie, they all put me in such a great mood. If you’re having a tough day listen to the "Footloose" soundtrack.
6. "Guardians of the Galaxy" (1 and 2)
I bring you back into this century with one of Marvel’s best movies, the reason why most Marvel movies now have classic rock soundtracks. Star Lord’s Awesome Mixes are, well, awesome. If you don’t enjoy the Cheap Trick or Fleetwood Mac hits in these movies then you may need to rethink some of your life choices.
7. "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World"
I think Michael Cera secretly really wants to be in a punk/indie band. I can’t really explain why, but this movie never fails to make me super happy. Not only is the music of the fictional bands, Sex Bob-omb and The Clash at Demonhead, in this movie phenomenal but the other included music is great too. I really love “O, Katrina!” by Black Lips and “Under My Thumb” by The Rolling Stones.
8. "Baby Driver"
Look at that adorable face. If you haven’t seen this movie yet you have to right now. Right. Now. It is absolutely amazing, funny, thrilling and just downright cute. It has every you need in a movie, including a great soundtrack. Some of the great songs include “Brighton Rock” by Queen and “Neat Neat Neat” by The Damned.
9. "L.O.L."
You need to listen to me on this one, I know you see Miley Cyrus up there and you’re starting to question my judgment. I assure you, this movie is really enjoyable and funny. Miley Cyrus falls in love with that cute guy up there, Douglas Booth, who is in a rock band. Great songs from this are “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane and “Heart on Fire” by Jonathan Clay.
10. "Almost Famous"
This is my favorite movie ever. It’s all about music. It’s about an upcoming successful rock band on their first tour and all their “band-aids.” Don’t call them groupies. Every single song on this soundtrack is amazing and will fill you with nostalgia, just like this movie.
Now, go treat yourself to some greats movies with some great music. Kick back, grab a snack, it’s worth it.
