Any movie lover and film buff would know, the music in a soundtrack is essential to the movie. A movie needs to have the right music that flows with the theme of the movie and the characters in it. Music adds emphasis to scenes and characters. It creates iconic moments in film history, such as Ferris Bueller dancing and singing on the parade float to Twist and Shout, That being said, I am going to compile a list of a few of the best movie soundtracks to grace our ears.
1. Star Wars (1977, 1980, 1983)
The music in Star Wars is arguably the most iconic soundtrack in film history. It was composed by John Williams, who also composed the music for the Jurassic Park movies. Whether you are a fan or not, you can probably recognize at least one of the pieces. The music from the original trilogy has been used in countless other movies and at events, in fact, the Imperial March was used during the fencing events at the Summer Olympics just last year. Forty years later, and the music composed in the original trilogy still gives fans goosebumps and makes them feel like they actually are in a galaxy far, far away.
2. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy quickly became a fan favorite in the Marvel universe, but it also became a favorite for movie goers. Besides the lovable characters, funny one-liners, and colorful aesthetic, the soundtrack plays a large role in this. Featuring an epic opening of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt's character) dancing to Come and Get Your Love by Redbone, it is filled with funky 70's classics such as Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede and Cherry Bomb by The Runaways.
3. Saturday Night Fever (1977)
Starring John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever is known for its disco scenes and music. The soundtrack includes hits from the Bee Gees, like Stayin' Alive and How Deep is Your Love. It has been an iconic soundtrack since the movie's release forty years ago in 1977.
4. Deadpool (2016)
Deadpool is a hilarious movie about a very unconventional superhero, who is really more of an anti-hero, and holds the record for the highest grossing R-rated movie. The music in the movie is completely in sync with Wade Wilson aka Deadpool's crude and sarcastic sense of humor. Each song goes perfectly with the scene that it is accompanying. Some highlighted songs would be Shoop, Deadpool Rap, and Careless Whisper. Watch the movie and you will understand why these songs fit so well with the theme of the movie and with Deadpool's personality.
5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
One of the many things that fans of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie were looking forward to was the soundtrack, and everyone was also wondering if it would live up to the first soundtrack. Well, in my opinion, and the opinions of many others who reviewed the film, it certainly did live up to the first one. It once again is full of funky songs from the 70's that make you want to dance no matter where you are. It goes along with the movie and with the characters so well it's almost unbelievable. My personal favorites are Wham Bam Shang-a-Lang by Silver, Fox on the Run by Sweet, and Surrender by Cheap Trick.
6. Back to the Future (1985)
The music in Back to the Future has a playful sound to it, and the theme is recognizable by almost everyone. BTTF is one of the most iconic movies to come out of the 80's and gave us the iconic scene where Marty sings Johnny B. Goode and gets a little too carried away with the guitar. Also, it gave us Huey Lewis and the News' 80's hit The Power of Love.
7. Grease (1978)
A classic movie with a classic soundtrack, the songs in Grease are known by basically everyone. For almost four decades people have grown up listening to this soundtrack and have sung along with it at the top of their lungs. We Go Together, Summer Nights, and of course, Greased Lightning are just a few of the unforgettable songs in this movie.
8. Beauty and the Beast (1991)
I did not want to include any Disney soundtracks in this article only because there are many incredible and beloved soundtracks Disney has produced, however, I felt that I should include Beauty and the Beast because the music is absolutely beautiful. Tale as Old as Time has been a cherished song for the past twenty-six years and probably will be forever.
There are many, many more movies out there with great soundtracks, but hopefully the ones listed above are some of the soundtracks you love as well!
