Great Leaders: The Traits Of Our Presidents

With all the political debate surrounding our country lately, I figured it would be a cool topic to write about. However, that is an extremely touchy subject that I have decided not to get into. Instead of focusing on our future presidents I chose to focus on our past presidents and how great they were.

To keep this controversy free, here are eleven awesome quotes from former great leaders!

1. Leadership

Staring all the way back in 1825, our sixth president had the right idea about leading a country. He knew how to inspire others in our country and keep the nation on track. He must have been doing something right because forty-one presidents later our nation is still alive.

2. Simplicity

Thirty-eighth president, Gerald R. Ford had a quick and easy fix to being a leader. As simple and cute as this quote is, it truly articulates how easy it is to be someone anybody can respect.

3. Believe

Theodore Roosevelt was the twenty-sixth president of the United States and even though he was almost a decade prior to Gerald R. Ford they both said simple yet meaningful quotes. Roosevelt knew that if you believed then that was half the battle.

4. Slowly but Surely

Our sixteenth president knew that slow and steady wins the race and things were not going to change over night. He stayed strong and his believes and never looked back. He moved forward to the brighter and more accepting future we live in today.

5. Passing the Torch

John F. Kennedy not only knew the importance of a great leader but also the importance of those who he would soon pass the torch too.

6. Accomplishment

The thirty- fourth president, Dwight D. Eisenhower knew that to be a great leader your work never stops. To truly accomplish something your work never stops!

7. Credit

Truman also knew a thing or two about accomplishments. He was right. if we stop worrying about who to impress and if we get the credit or not then we can get so much more done. That applies to individuals and our nation.

8. Use your Resources

Being a leader and good president doesn't just depend on the person, but also who the person is willing to work with. Having the courage to admit you need help is a huge deal and a great quality for a leader of our country.

9. Freedom

A leader need not loose sight of what is important. Reagan knew that the government's first duty was to protect. Protection and overbearing are two entirely different things.

10. Excellence

Over all, as a leader you must strive to be the best you can be. Lyndon B. Johnson had the right idea when he said, " The noblest search is the search for excellence."

11. Your Voice

Even though he is still the president this quote by Barack Obama needed to be included. A great leader doesn't dictate but encourages the people they rule. Let everyone know that their voice can change the world!

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
