How many of us are actually grateful for what we have? Most of us have a steady amount of food, water, clothes, and everything we need. We have a roof over our heads and people that care about us. Do any of us actually think about that though? When you wake up in the morning, do you thank you parents for the food you get? Or thank them for all the clothes you have? I don't think any of us actually thank our parents for what we have because we take it for granted.
Sure, some of us work for what we have and we pay for our own stuff, but who paid for your stuff before you got a job? Who would pay for your stuff if you couldn't get a job? Would you have someone to help you? For most people, yes, you would have someone to help you. We don't ever really worry about the real difficult things in life. What we worry about most is whatever fight seems to be going on between people on Twitter.
I recently started an internship here at school. I'm helping my biology professors when they go to high schools to teach and assist with science classes there. Two of these schools are in the inner part of Charlotte. Some of the kids at these two high schools are not very lucky. Most of them actually are living paycheck to paycheck with their families. Some without homes. It's hard to see these kids struggling like this. These kids are grateful and get very excited about some of the smallest things.
Almost all of the things that we take for granted each day, these kids don't even get on a consistent basis. We buy them pizza on the days we visit them, that pizza will give them dinner for two or three days. Can you imagine that? Eating a small amount of pizza for a few nights as dinner. Even worse, imagine taking that pizza home to your family that doesn't even have a home? It'd be pretty rough, right?
Thankfully, most of us don't have to worry about stuff like that. Our lives are much easier compared to theirs, even if we feel like it's not at some points. Seeing all of this should make anyone feel grateful for what they have. Everything you have, it could be gone and you could have nothing. Think you could survive? Would you want to survive?
It's tough, no doubt about that. I hope I can help these kids to learn so that they can have a better life ahead of them. Be grateful for what you have because one day you may not have that. You have so much more than you think. You may not always believe that, especially when things are not going your way, but you should still be grateful. Above being grateful, help out those in need.
