It's November, and you know what that means: The ATP Finals for Mens! The Nitto ATPs are finally closing in, after a circuit of intense competition. The draws have just been completed at The Chris Evan's Breakfast Show.
*Why Nitto? It's this year's main sponsor and will be until 2020.
The historic tournament is going to be held at the O2 Stadium in London from the 12th of November to the 19th, so remember your tickets! The finals are unlike other tournaments in the men's circuit. It starts with 8 players being divided into two teams. Instead of a straight elimination match, they play three round-robin matches (a.k.a. all-play-all). The two best players from each team will them battle it out in the semifinals, which would then progress with just two in the finals.
As the players prepare for the biggest tournament of the year, they remember what's at stake: a title, U$8,000,000, and a stockpile of ranking points that can push them in the rankings in the coming season.
Alexander Zverev, the wunderkind of tennis, has understandably withdrawn from the NextGen ATP Finals in Milan, to allow him more time to prepare himself for the intense competition.
"I have consulted with my team and, in order to best prepare for London, we have made the decision that it is best not to play the week before in Milan," the 20-year-old German said. "Therefore, sadly, I will be withdrawing from the NextGen ATP Finals. However, I still plan on making an appearance at the beginning of the event to support the tournament and show my appreciation for my fans in Italy that were so supportive during my win in Rome earlier this year."
