6 Grammar Mistakes That Drive All English Majors Crazy

Yes, I am a Grammar Nazi and I am proud! I know I'm not perfect all the time and I can slip up every now and again. But that doesn't stop me from correcting you if you're wrong (but only out of love.) These are a few of the most common mistakes made that can drive your English major friends up the wall.

1. Your & You're

Incorrect: "Your going to kiss you're grandma with that mouth?"
Correct: "You're going to regret buying your mom that stripper pole."

2. There, Their, and They're

Incorrect: There going to use they're car to get their.
Correct: Their dog likes to hump Jake's leg when they're not there.

3. Lack of comma usage

"Let's eat grandma!" No, let's not.
"Let's eat, grandma." Much better.

4. Defiantly/Definitely

Incorrect: I defiantly want to see that movie.

Correct: I definitely want to punch you for misusing that word.

5. To, Two, and Too

Incorrect: You are two stupid too do this math equation to.

Correct: There are two glasses of wine to drink, too.

6. Subject/Verb agreement

Incorrect: "I have already went to the store," or "I just seen that commercial."

Correct: "I have already gone to the store" and "I just saw that commercial."

I mean, really. How does any of that even sound correct? When in doubt, Google it or Facebook message your resident grammar nerd. You'll thank them later.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
