Graduation Is Coming

It's creeping up on you. You honestly have been so busy with class, work, and social events that you haven't even realized that this semester has FLEW by. You get the alert that you have to sign up for spring classes and it still doesn't really hit you; you just sign up for the classes you need, no big deal. it isn't until you get a call from your family asking for hotels in the area and what the date is for your graduation that it hits and it hits hard.

You are Graduating. You have one more semester until you leave college in the rearview and have to tackle the "real world."

One of the scariest things to think about is am I prepared? Did I use my time in college to prepare me for the future and help me to be successful in life? And for everyone that level of success is different. So it's not about how much money you make or what things you have, but are you able to find a career you are satisfied in and reach the goals you have set out to acquire.

It's that time where you are perfecting your resume and maybe building an E-Portfolio; having a general strong structure for what your cover letter will look like because it's happening, you are about to start applying for jobs. The job fairs and seminars on campus are increasing and your finding yourself out shopping for business attire because you are beginning the transition into adulthood. For some of you this is scary, you've worked your butts off in school and classes and studying was your job, but for others it's been four or five years of classes, studying, and working jobs to pay for it all and it's hitting us all that this part of our lives is about to be over.

All of this started with one little word, graduation.

You thought your senior year, you would be thinking about it nonstop, that the reality of graduation had already hit, but you were wrong. It still hasn't really set in that you growing up and about to enter an entirely new stage of life. You're going to cling to this last semester and the people around you because after its over you will officially be an adult, you will have graduated with a diploma in your hand and hopefully a strong will to march into the real world with your head held high and goal to attain.

Graduation is coming.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
