Are you at a loss for how to decorate your graduation cap? Honestly, who isn’t? Graduation is the end of textbooks, countless all-nighters, and coffee addiction, while simultaneously being the beginning of the rest of your life.

How do you encompass the significance of your college years on top of what your future holds? Well, what better way than to decorate your cap based on your major! After all, it is what you spent the past four to five years studying and what you’ll be practicing in the years ahead.

History Major

As a history major, you learned the important roles other people played throughout all of history. However, graduation marks your history and significance of the past few years of your life. People probably thought your major was boring when you told them what you were studying, so graduation is the time to prove them wrong!

Make your grad cap go down in history by including your favorite historical person or event and make it shine! Don’t throw away your shot.

Theatre Arts Major

You spent your college years learning how to be the best performer you could be. Walking across the graduation stage will be your final college performance! Own center stage and make it count by creating a show stopping grad cap that can serve as your final college prop. Maybe a design that suggests that you’re moving on to your next act would be a good choice for you!

Education Major

Graduation finally marks the end of being taught how to teach. Your cap should embody your passion for wanting to become the person who guides the future of tomorrow. A favorite teacher quote complete with the typical teacher icons such as an apple, a ruler, etc. could be just the design you’re looking for.

Business Major

During your time in school, people probably assumed you didn’t have a creative bone in your body since you chose this major. However, by using a finance, marketing, accounting, or supply chain term in a sentence on your cap will be sure to knock that stereotype right off the chart!

Communication Major

If you’re a communication major, you probably do a good job of keeping up with what’s new in the media. If you’re at a loss for how to decorate your cap, consider using a celebrity, movie, or song quote that goes along with your college journey coming to an end or a new journey beginning.

Art Major

As an art major, your grad cap is naturally going to be a masterpiece. Make your grad cap pop by using your favorite artist’s technique to paint something related to graduation, or even try to be creative in yet another way by using your favorite art term or favorite artist’s name in a phrase!

Nursing Major

You committed your education to learning how to care for other people. You will see people at their worst, and hopefully, at their best again. This unique major needs a unique graduation cap! Don’t be afraid to refer to yourself and your accomplishments on your cap, you deserve it!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
