Graduation is fun.
Especially if you get to have lots of celebrations and parties and potentially have a cool future.
However, some colleges are a little different than others. Some colleges like the Air Force Academy.
The United States Air Force Academy does things a little... more... orderly than most universities, but there's definitely a significant amount of fun... once it's all over.
1. Caps and Gowns:
Normal Universities:
Maybe a little decoration, maybe some fun words and pictures on the cap... you know.
USAFA:
Not a single wrinkle or hair must be present on the uniform, cadet.
2. The Pomp and Circumstance March
Normal Universities:
Fun, casual, slight amounts of order. The usual.
USAFA:
One wrong step and the entire march is completely ruined.
3. Guest Speakers
Normal Universities:
Maybe a famous psychologist or doctor or someone above the average social class.
USAFA:
Oh you know, just THE PRESIDENT OF THE FREAKING UNITED STATES.
4. Receiving Diplomas
Normal Universities:
Again, pretty casual. Cheering, celebration, jokes, good fun.
USAFA:
Oh, you know, just another little handshake from EL PRESIDENTE.
5. Final Words
Normal Universities:
The last few words to push you into adult life. You stand, you listen, you consider.
USAFA:
Just a casual taking of the Oath of Office to the United States Air Force. So help me God.
6. Throwing the Cap
Normal Universities:
Chuck it in the air and pray you find it once it hits the ground.
USAFA:
Chuck it in the air and keep looking up cause a bunch of F-16s are about to do a flyover and airshow just for you.
7. The After Party
Let's be honest, it's gonna be the same everywhere. Cause it's college.
8. The Future
Although going to a normal university doesn't mean one will never serve the country, those who graduate from the United States Air Force Academy have fought through four years of struggle and hardship and separation from friends and family in order to dedicate their lives fully and truly to our beautiful country.
Graduating as Second Lieutenants, these young men and women will be the leaders to bring the country out of turmoil and into peace, and there is no way to thank them for all that they have done and will do in the years to come.
So, without further adieu, from me and most Americans, thank you for your service, and go kick some butt, class of 2016.
