If you weren't at the Georgia Theatre on January 26th, you missed out! Somewhere in between the guitar solos and the kaleidoscope of colors that danced around the stage, magic occurred -- midnight magic. Grace Potter flew through the Georgia Theatre this past Tuesday and brought to the table her new sound and a new experience
After getting to interview Grace earlier in the month and dig deep into her persona, I found this concert experience to be even more than I initially hoped. Here I would like to share that essence with my community in hopes to inspire, just as I have been so inspired myself.
If you didn't read my last article, let me catch up you. Simply put, Grace is a bad-ass and uses power-girl antics to perfectly blend her ambiguous sound with her complex humble spirit.
After a great opening by Eliza Hardy Jones, the vibes were perfectly set in place.
Grace Potter is doing something that is just not done anymore. Her dynamic is what makes her that much stronger and encourages the freeing atmosphere that definitely played out in her Athens show. Being able to switch styles and instruments yet still have a sense of trust with the audience is hard to accomplish, and yet Grace is pulling it off with flying "neon" colors. This pop-rock stunner is the real deal and one note of her sultry pipes proves that. The Athens audience responded so positively to the combination of her new album as well as true fans classics, such as "Paris (Oh la la)." Although in our interview Grace says, "she's just a singer," seeing her take the stage, she is so much more than that. The hair-ography itself makes you want to let lose control right along with her, and I most definitely did!
The gritty blues roots that Grace came from definitely showcased themselves in multiple aspects in this musical experiment as played out on our Athens stage, and everyone around me, the young and the old, felt that. There is something so seductive about her tracks "Your Girl" and "Delirious" that it is perfectly balanced with her truthful delivery of "Stars." One can't help to think this rock goddess is the key to the resurrection of our sometimes-criticized musical generation. Grace Potter puts the performance back into live music -- she's both past and present, and that is something our world can revel in.
