Grace. A word that deserves the most active response I can muster up, yet I too often find myself passive towards this blanket of love my Father covers me in without fail every single morning.
Because of The Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3: 22-23
As active followers of Christ, how are we supposed to respond to grace? It is always chasing us, so how do we chase it back? Part of understanding how desperately you need Christ is understanding the depths of your sin. Only then can we truly begin to fathom the depths of grace.
The reason we are able to eagerly jump out of bed every morning ready to claim this grace that is new and ready for us, tailored to our every need, equipped to sustain us, is our ability to depend on it. No one wants to be in a relationship with someone who acts like they are perfectly fine without you, who treats you like an accessory rather than a necessity and ignores you half of the time. Our relationship with Christ is no different.
He doesn't just want our pre-meal prayers and Sunday mornings. He wants literally everything. How can we be ready to give this engulfing response? By understanding the depths of our sin. Only then can we begin to fathom the depths of our dependence on Jesus.
Jesus lived a perfect life. He was completely human, completely God, and lived the spotless life we could never live. He is the strength for my weakness, the bread of life for my hunger, the living water for my thirst, the endurance for the race set before me, power for my timidness, forgiveness for my stubbornness, beauty for my ugliness, and love for my brokenness.
As He died on the cross, He declared "it is finished" for you and me for all of eternity. He was everything we would ever need before we even realized we had a need. He met every single mark God required of me, and there's no way I can repay Him enough, thank Him enough, or "get even" with Him. But the best part is, He doesn't want to. He just wants my life. All of it. So He can cover me with His grace and make this messy, frazzled life of mine count. The only way my life can begin to matter is when it starts to be lived under the wings of Sweet Jesus Christ, the Author of every good thing.
So we wake up eager, with the blood of Jesus Christ actively covering us, His grace seeking us. When we realize this active pursuit upon us that nothing can stop or stand against, we can't help but seek it in return. We can't help but fall deeply in love with the One who not only made our hearts but treasures it.
We seize our new mercies every morning, we taste the goodness, see the faithfulness, and chase Him back out of loving desperation that changes everything for His glory and His good. This is my Jesus. This is His grace.
