History was made on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The electoral college vote swung to the right, electing Donald Trump as the 45th . Many tears were shed on the left, and cheers were sung on the right. I, along with my family, was relieved. Several of my friends, however, went straight to Facebook and Twitter to vent and criticize Trump’s election.
The trending hashtags on Wednesday, November 9, disgusted me. I was appalled at the words that flashed across the screen of my computer as I reviewed the day’s news. #notmyvote and #notmypresident were all over social media. There was a Twitter blackout. My Facebook feed was overwhelmed with news of the protests that were beginning to arise.
Our nation is in an over-emotional and overreacting tailspin. California is threatening to secede. An organization in North Carolina has a petition that is calling for a revote from the electoral college. People are ‘fearing for their future’. Protests, some of which are evolving into riots, are spreading across the nation. They say they are accepting, yet they cannot seem to accept that they will not always get what they want. All of this is happening, and Donald Trump has not even been inaugurated.
Here’s the thing: our world is not going to stop just because Donald Trump is now the President-elect. And even when he is POTUS, gays can still be gay and Muslims can still practice their religion. Liberal media will twist your thoughts and make you think that he is out to get you, but your rights as an American citizen are not going to disappear as soon as he steps into office in January.
Donald Trump is the new President-elect, and he deserves the same amount of respect as any other POTUS. You can say what you want and whine on Twitter or Facebook or Instagram, but that will not change the fact that Obama’s term is coming to an end and we will soon have a new president. This is how our two-party system works, and the liberal millennials and crybabies need to deal with it. Grab a juice box and take a break. Y’all need it.
