Heads up Pokemon Trainers! If you're lucky you may catch more than a few pokemon while out poke-hunting, you may catch a glimpse of a celebrity as well.
Pokemon Go has taken the world by storm, sparking the interest of people of all ages. Just last week I decided to download the game while in Wildwood, New Jersey on a day-trip with my mother and I kid you not there was a pokestop and about a dozen people buried in their phones on every street corner. When taking to the boardwalk I was shocked; hundreds of people meandering, heads down, staring at their phones, coming to a halt each and every-time a wild weedle or rattata appeared. It was very clear that no one was paying attention to anything or anyone around them, their sole focus was on Pokemon Go.
I noticed this same pattern while at the University of Delaware yesterday afternoon. Each time I drove down main street I noticed numerous people on the steps of Old College and at first this seemed odd, but upon opening my Pokemon Go app I found that Old College was, in fact, the site of a Pokemon Go gym. This made me wonder how many celebrities have been able to sneak past crowds of pokemon trainers unnoticed.
I took to my phone out of curiosity and found that earlier this week Justin Bieber managed to infiltrate a massive crowd of pokemon trainers in Central Park, New York City and began poke-hunting with the others without being noticed. The pokemon trainers, so focused on their game, did not notice the celebrity in their midst.
Justin Bieber is only one of many celebrity poke-trainers that can be spotted (If you're even looking) walking the city streets searching for pokemon. It has been noted that many other celebrities have become addicted to the game and often walk around "trying to catch'em all." Rapper Tyga and girlfriend Kylie Jenner have been spotted in Budapest poke-hunting while Demi Lovato poke-hunts on her Future Now Tour with Nick Jonas. John Mayer posts on Instagram photographic proof of having spent nearly $100 in pokecoins, Zach Braf is spotted in Union Square, New York City, and Joe Jonas jokingly asks fans, via Twitter, to join him on a poke hunt to Area 51 to find Mewtwo.
