O! You are reading this with the intent on finding out how to be a rockin’ redhead, and I am going to tell you just how to do it.
First, BE YOURSELF. This is the most important step to being a rockin’ ANYTHING. Whether you are a natural born ginger or you opted to take a ride on the wild side of fire locks, embrace every moment of it! Pale skin and freckles don’t always come with the magical mutation of genes that is natural redheads, but you wouldn’t believe how amazing red hair looks on just about anybody. Let your flaming hot personality match whatever tresses you desire!
Be mindful that for some crap reason, the red hue fades much faster and is way more sensitive than most other hair colors. Maybe because it’s more precious? Who knows? But take good care of that hair! Brands likeJohn Frieda, Tressa, and Avedaall have redhead specific lines, (Finally!) Also, opt for hair products with heat and color protection and look out for things like sulfates and parabens. Those kinds of ingredients are sure to put out that beautiful fire before it can really thrive. (Plus they are damaging for pretty much every hair type, so even if you haven’t made the dive into the red zone, you should still cut them out of your hair diet.) This also includes washing and heat-styling your hair less! This idea spans for every hair type as well to keep it healthy and shiny, but for us gingers, it’s imperative in order to keep that rosey tone. Dry shampoos specifically catered to redheads do in fact exist, and they are a blessing! Try out brands like Batiste that have color deposit instead of that sickly looking white powder, or simply DIY a homemade alternative with things like cinnamon for a darker shade when skipping the traditional wash. Another DIY that is a single ingredient is cranberry juice! Use this as an in between rinse when actually washing your hair for a natural, sweet smelling way to lengthen and brighten your color.
Lastly, experiment! Whether you were born with the sassiness or wanted to create your own, learn to love the shade that best suits you. That goes to say the same with makeup and fashion. I personally have HATED wearing orange and red for most of my life, but I have recently been loving different shades of those colors to compliment my specific tresses. I have always seemed to play it safer with makeup, but with my near-translucent skin and almost black eyes, I’ve been dipping my toes into the ocean of lipstick and have found that colors I would have cried about as a teenager actually aren’t that clashy. Do a little digging in that makeup of yours, find out what undertone you have to your skin, and go for it! It never hurts to try something new, especially with things that you can change in an instant like a lip color or a bright top, and you never know, you might find your newest favorite. Every redhead is unique in their own way and being a redhead means you get to stand out every single day!
