Both the European Union and the all-mighty glorious Google once again got into beef over antitrust regulations set by the EU. And this is definitely nothing new.
The EU has long berated Google for performing many "unethical" actions, such as the placing of its own reviews before other review sites and putting Google Shopping results at the top above others.
Actually, Google was fined $2.7 billion last year for just that, putting Google Shopping results at the top above others. While this may not be completely fair and can be considered to be unethical, Google is a company and has rights of their own; even for them, a multi-billion dollar fine is no joke, even though they can pay it off.
However, this recent record $5 billion fine is much more than ever expected. Google has been fined this money because they are "unethically" pre-loading their apps onto their Android phones, meaning that they put YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, and other highly used apps onto phones that their technology is in. Google did not even have a chance to change this, before the EU slapped a $5 billion fine on them and told them to stop.
While you could say Google is at fault for sliding their apps in for use out of convenience to beat competitors, these apps are in high demand anyway, and could be considered an initiative to make some people's lives easier.
