Why get all dressed up in your Sunday’s best for date night when you can go pop some tags at your local thrift store and get an awesome outfit? That is the question that a young Florida couple asked themselves as they were donating clothes to the Fort Walton Beach, Fl branch of Goodwill.
Paula Williams and her boyfriend Cody Andrews decided to buy a crazy outfit for each other at Goodwill and then go on a date without telling any onlookers about what they were doing. They then posted a photo of themselves on Facebook with the caption “"Goodwill Date" is upon us! Maybe our greatest creation. Hitting McGuires for dinner then out for drinks. Official rules: each person picks out their significant others (or BFF's) surprise outfit at Goodwill, $10 budget, outfit has to be gender appropriate. When on the date you can't tell people it's a joke. When you upload your picture you have to challenge two more couples.”
Andrews said that though there were plenty looks of surprise and confusion directed their way, "the vast majority of people we saw ended up with a smile on their face, which is exactly what we wanted,” (abcnews). After posting their photo, the #Goodwilldate went viral with many couples flocking to Goodwill to find their own unique date night outfits.
Andrews went on to say that the 'Goodwill Date' idea is not only a fun way to find unique clothing items from every decade, but it is also good for the environment and for the organization itself (abcnews). Hopefully this wonderful and entertaining trend will not die down anytime soon.
