If you're like me (a college student suffering from a budget crisis), you're probably saving pennies from every dollar spent on a cheap drink at a gas station. I don't blame you, money is money. Suddenly that joking little saying you had as a kid, "Every penny counts," becomes incredibly legitimate and serious. In my opinion, budgeting your time is just as important as budgeting your money. Those two entities also go hand-in-hand.

If you're going shopping for something that isn't food, maybe you should hit up your local Goodwill, and see if you can find something there that satisfies what you need. Keep in mind that Goodwill is only in Don't waste money and time if you don't have to. Here are twelve reasons why your local Goodwill may become your best friend in college:

1. It's a workplace

If you don't have a job or looking for another, here's a place you can put in an application and cross your fingers. You'll be helping your budget, while working at a place that helps your budget. It's a win-win scenario.

2. You never know what you're going to find

I went today and found an almost brand-new graphing calculator for a measly $2. It's pink, and I won't use it, but I'm sure one of my friends can.

3. The perfect place to buy low, sell high

That graphing calculator? You can have it for $20.

4. Cheap clothes

There is a high chance you're not going to find any clothes over $10-$15 at the Goodwill. Most clothes range from $3 to $8. You're bound to find at least a few clothes that do fit well, and it's better than paying $30 at a retail store.

5. Goodwill accepts returns

Don't abuse the policy, but they will accept returns on items. If the shirt you bought has a hole you didn't find, just take it right back. Remember the receipt though.

6. Appliances

There are toaster ovens, microwaves, sometimes even an occasional mini fridge. Don't shell out hundreds for something you plan on just sticking in your dorm room for a relatively short period of time. If they don't work, return them, and take the oftentimes-unfortunate retail route.

7. Charging cords

We all hate our iPhone charging cords. Let's face it: We're out buying a new one every few months, throwing away many dollars. For roughly $3, one can be bought at Goodwill. No, it's not Apple certified. But in the end, it gets the job done.

8. Goodwill Rewards

9. Good reads

You're bound to find something good to read in the books section. Lots of the books are well-worn, but that usually means it's been a good read enjoyed by others. You may bump into the occasional college textbook, too.

10. Shop by the pound

At only two select locations in Gorham, ME, and Hudson, NH, you can "Buy the Pound," in Northern New England. More info can be found here.

11. Have something you'll never use?

Donate it. Goodwill's inventory is based on donations. Buy an item, perhaps leave an item too. It is better than simply throwing away something that is no longer of use.

12. Helping a friend

Maybe your friend can be best friends with the Goodwill, too.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.
