A Thank You Letter To Sense 8

Goodbye to our favorite cluster.

A Thank You Letter To Sense 8

Netflix surprised us all this past week with a 6 show cancellation that included some fan favorites like Marco Polo, The Get Down, and the currently trending Sense 8. I had intended to write about all the reasons why you should watch Sense 8, but since we will forever be left hanging on what the 3rd season could've brought us, here's a thank you letter to everything Sense 8 managed to give us in its 2 season run.

1. Thank for the diversity.

A quite literal global show that took us into places such as Africa, Mexico, Iceland, Brazil, and so many others during its 2 season run and brought us characters from all walks of life. Sure, there have been shows that have transported us to other countries, but Sense 8 somehow made you feel like you were walking the same streets of Amsterdam along with the characters and their story lines. The diversity of the cast itself and the places it chose to showcase was a breath of fresh air.

2. Thank you for the representation.

The cast was as diverse as the stories that surrounded them and their culture. There was nothing generic about the characters and I still don't want to say too much without giving away important character plotlines because they all matter towards the bigger picture. All 8 gentle souls disguised in their bodies and connected telepathically in a way that reminded the audience just how similar we all really are, despite our differences.

3. Thank you for the team work.

Somehow these 8 beings who have never met and have nothing in common all somehow manage to work together for the greater good of their cluster. All of their weaknesses and strengths reminding audiences that there is something we can offer each other, even in the darkest of moments.

4. Thank you for the laughs.

Even though this show was mostly serious and action packed, there are moments when you find yourself laughing at the hilarity that is the entire cluster situation.

5. Thank you for the action.

Because we all love a good fight scene and even though I am the worst with blood and gore, for this show I was grateful at its brutal honesty and action packed story lines.

6. Thank you for the tears.

Both happy and sad because, let's be honest, this show could not have been a hit without being an emotional roller coaster.

7. Thank you for the friendship

The cluster is a group of 8 people who in our universe would have never crossed paths, and if they had they would have kept walking, but in the Sense 8 universe, the bond of their friendship is unbreakable-no matter the cost or the risk.

8. Thank you for the love

A show that brought 8 people together both physically and mentally in 2 seasons and somehow managed to make an even better love story than Twilight.

Even though there is little hope of this show getting its happy ending or any ending at this point, I still highly recommend at least watching the 1st season to know why the uproar has been so loud in favor of Sense 8.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
