You know that feeling?

The one where you’ve been in love with the same person for years.

It seems like decades have gone by, where you’re just “the friend”.

You’d do literally anything for them; you talk to them every day, you attend to their every need, and you are always there for them.

You hope and wish that they will somehow reciprocate, or even notice your existence.

This is what’s known as the friend-zone, and it sucks.

Years go by, still standing by their side, you make excuses as to why you’re still friends.

You keep telling yourself, "They were there for me in my rough patch","They always had my back", "They know me better than I know myself".

Yet, they can’t see the feelings you have inside. Or, they see, but choose to ignore them.

You watch them go through heartbreak after heartbreak, all while telling them there’s someone better out there. You.

Let me tell you something, you deserve better than to be friend-zoned.

There is someone better out there for you, not them.

They had their chance to have better, but blew it.

There is someone out there that sees you as the beautiful being you are.

There may not be soulmates, but there are special people. Those special people come in when you least expect them.

They will know you better than you know yourself.

Amongst those people, you’ll find your person. The one who can relate to being friend-zoned just like you, this whole time they were waiting.

Time is the best thing for love.

Yes, that person may resemble your past and they might have been there for you at one point.

But now, it’s time to let go.

The past is no place to live. Live in the present and strive for the future you deserve.

You deserve to be first and foremost, not second.

Your special person will show you what true love is.

They’ll give you real butterflies and sweep you off your feet when you least expect it.

The friend-zone is the past. Be ready for the present and be open to the future.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
