Goodbye 2016! Politics Edition

2016 sucked... Especially for these political figures and groups!

I'm just going to say it now: 2016 Sucked

You know what's fun about leaving a year behind and looking forward to brand new, 365 day calendar? Remembering everything that went wrong. And in 2016, everything went wrong. From celebrity deaths to blown 3-1 leads, I can't help but feel that this was a year for the ages. The cream of the crop of crappiness. The utter end all for everything sucky about life.

However, I'm going to leave 2016 on a little bit of a happy, sarcastic note. Because I'm cynical like that and want to remind people of things which made them cry. For today, my focus is politics!.

It was an election year. An election year which I hope my future children and grandchildren (if I'm so lucky) will NEVERask me about. But outside of the obvious loss of Supreme Court justice, Antonin Scalia, what part of the political realm are we leaving behind in good ol' 2K16? Unfortunately, the following....

The DNC

Let's face it: the election sucked. The outcome sucked even more. But the DNC's approach to the entire s***show was what sucked the most. I'm not a poli-sci major, but I can definitely say that any political party which skews its own primary process in favor of one candidate has no right to call foul when the General Election in November goes the same way. Sorry Bernie. Maybe 2020 will be your time. If the Democratic Party survives not having a majority in any part of the federal government for at least the next two years, that is.

Bill's Hopes of Ever Being the 1st First Man

Yes, Trump will be our president. That means Melania Trump will be our next First Lady. You can feel bad for Hillary, having missed out on the White House for the second time in a decade, but I feel worse for America. Because we're going to miss out on having Bill as First Man! Just imagine that guy in a spot of semi-power with no official rules and the sitcoms we could've had! The only true loss of the 2016 election.

Education Standards

As mentioned in a previous article, Michigan set the bar super low for literacy standards in the US. So low that I'm pretty sure I could jump over the bar, which is not saying a lot. However, with ideas such as Common Core becoming more prevalent and the inability of individual states to actual set and uphold education standards at every level, I fear that we will soon be electing Mr. Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho to the White House. At least we will all have Hoap™.

Gay Rights

I can't really say this enough: just let people be happy! I find it maddening that there are still legal barriers to not only gay marriage, but adoption by same-sex couples and just full on social rejection of LGBTQ individuals throughout our nation. But hey, I'm a hetero, cis dude who's half white, so what do I know about having it easy? Oh wait...

But I digress. After all, with religious intolerance on the rise, the Alt-Right have to find something to demonize and attack, so it might as well be people who don't identify as sexually straight.

Women's Rights

I'm going to beat a dead horse. Because I like poking dead things with sticks. It's fun; you should try it sometime!

Anyways, please remember the following phrase: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It's that little Golden Rule we all learn in Kindergarten and is hammered into the head of every Sunday School child in the history of ever. But we all forget about it about age 14 when hormones kick in and we (men) realize we're bigger and stronger than our female partners. It's unfortunate that something as simple as treating other people in a respectful manner is dying off. Well, at least I was able to witness it in person for a few years.

Civil Rights

*sigh* Need I actually say anything here?

Morality

I actually thought that, if anything, the US was at least a moral nation. Guess I was wrong. But hey, we can always try again next year, right?

Ehh... maybe not.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
