Five Monday Mantras To Start Your Week Off Right
Sophia Bush

Every day we are manifesting our own destiny. Whether we do it subconsciously by simply having dreams for our future selves, or instead we focus our lives on radiating good vibes and positive energy – the idea of thinking your fate into existence has become a popular concept in the new age. Our thoughts are linked to different frequencies of energy and in turn those same energies are attracted back into our lives. This concept has come to be known as “The Law of Attraction” and attributes every event in your life (both positive and negative) to be a direct reflection of yourself and what you attract. If you are a positive person you will attract positive experiences. If you are a negative person, don’t expect to find opportunity knocking at your door.

Popularized by Rhonda Byrnes' “The Secret” - The Law of Attraction is constantly in effect, even if you are unaware of it. From the moment you wake up in the morning to the moment you lay your head to rest at night, you have been attracting different frequencies of energy. Your state of mind controls your universe, and your worth develops from within. Similarly speaking, your life is in your hands. You can shape and mold your experiences simply by controlling your outlook on life. If you want to achieve something you must not only think it but truly believe it. If you visualize what you want for yourself, you will be sending out a clear and distinct message to the universe and you will find that everything you wanted is exactly what is attracted back to you.

Negative experiences act as a domino effect. Although they are sometimes inevitable, what you can control is how you choose to view them. By choosing to focus on a bad situation you are continuing to circulate bad energy around yourself while causing more undesirable events to occur. Your worst days usually begin with one small bad event that you overthink and let ruin your entire day - you’re late to work, you spill your coffee, you get stuck in traffic, the list goes on and on. By dwelling on these minute aspects of one morning you are overwhelming yourself with negative energy and are pushing yourself into a downward spiral. Instead, choose to see the brighter side of a situation or simply remind yourself that everything happens for a reason. Rather than looking for something to complain about, look for a lesson hidden within something negative. Retrace your thoughts and use them to have a more positive outlook on life.

Somewhere along the way, Mondays developed the stigma of being an inevitably bad day. Sure it’s the day right after the weekend which means you have to get back to school/work, but how is it different from any other weekday? Monday is no longer a day of the week, but rather an excuse for someone to justify their negative mindset. However, if you stopped complaining long enough to take everything in you would find that some really incredible things can happen - regardless of what day your calendar says it is. Cue the Monday Mantra hashtag. Propagated by celebrities such as Sophia Bush, #MondayMantras are all about emanating positive vibes and radiating good energy to begin one’s week with a positive outlook. Usually found in the form of truisms about life, love and success - a mantra is repeated phrase meant to inspire and motivate. One small positive thought in the morning can change your outlook on the entire day and in turn, your entire week. Rather than waking up on a Monday and filling your mind with the stereotypical negative thoughts that come along with the day, look up a mantra that represents what you wish to find in your life. Think it, visualize it, believe it. Here are 5 of my favorite #MondayMantras to start your week off the right way!

1. "Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not the events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it." - Groucho Marx

2. "So you plant your own garden and decorate your soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure. That you really are strong, and you really do have worth." - Author Unknown

3. "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." - Socrates

4. "All doubt, despair and fear become insignificant once the intention of life becomes love, rather than the dependence on love." - Rumi

5. "For what it’s worth: it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.” - Eric Roth

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
