I've dyed my hair, spend more time with my friends, the outdoors, and ~most importantly~ my family. The silver linings are everywhere.

Here's 3 Reasons Why Quarantine Hasn't Been All That Bad

It's no secret that parts of the quarantine have been awful. Isolation, depression, online school; the list could go on. But I have always had predilections for finding the silver lining in everything, and this quarantine has not been an exception. Let's take a look at some of the wonderful things that have come out of the Corona Quarantine.

People are spending more time outdoors.

Sure, am I biased to the outdoors? Absolutely. But in my weekly hiking adventures, I have never seen so many other people on the trails. It warms my heart to see others appreciate the beauty of nature and take advantage of the many opportunities to spend time in it, especially with new time that may have popped up due to the coronavirus. This outdoor exploration is an added environmental benefit to the decrease in fossil fuel consumption as fewer people are driving cars. Mother Earth is having a great time.

People are spending more time with their friends.

Because of the reduction in school pressure in the transition to online learning, mass Zoom calls with friends are through the roof. I talk to my friends through Zoom more often than we ever hung out during "normalized" conditions. I am grateful for the quarantine in this regard, for now I know that we will continue to be together just as often once COVID-19 subsides.

People are spending more time (and bingeing Netflix) with their families.

Netflix is a household necessity for quarantine

Although colleges are shut down and many students have returned home, it would be easy to shut oneself up in their room and resume the typical business of only seeing their parents once every three months. However, I realized that I took advantage of all the opportunities I had to be with my family while I was in high school. During quarantine, I have been grateful for the opportunity to spend more time with them. In fact, we are blazing through American Horror Story, and I am loving it. (My favorite season has been Hotel. I highly recommend.) We've also been playing board games together. Who doesn't love board games?

Quarantine has certainly had its downsides, not to mention the worry of contracting the coronavirus or already experiencing so much death in the world from it. However, I think an essential part of healing from it and continuing optimistically through its conclusion is to focus on the amazing benefits of this pause on the status quo.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
