Good Things Came Out of My Chaotic First Day Back at Charlotte

A rollercoaster of beer and frustration.

Good Things Came Out of My Chaotic First Day Back at Charlotte

My first day back at UNC Charlotte included a beer, a blow-up mattress, Jack in the box, and Madden NFL 19. My day began by driving two and a half hours from Raleigh to Charlotte. I opened up my music app on my iPhone and pressed shuffle. The drive wasn't so bad, but I did run into traffic that added 30 minutes to my arrival time. I dreamt of arriving in Charlotte and starting my senior year at the apartment I signed a lease for back in January, but instead, I'm staying at my friend's apartment for two weeks.

The apartment I was supposed to move into the week before school started isn't fully built yet, so all residents had to stay somewhere that isn't the apartment we are paying for. I wasn't going to let my unfinished apartment destroy the start of my senior year, so as I arrived in Charlotte multiple friends called me asking where I was. I decided to go see my "roommates" who were staying somewhere that wasn't the apartment we are currently paying for.

I talked to them for about an hour and then I left to go to my other friend's apartment to drop off my stuff. I settled into his apartment before being picked up by my roommates and we went to another friends house to play Madden NFL 19. Playing Madden NFL 19 for the first time was frustrating because I didn't win, but I was determined not to let my living situation or losing Madden ruin my day.

When we left our friends house we decided to drink a little, but a little turned into a lot. We were hyping each other up to keep drinking because this was the beginning of our senior year. A few beers turned into several, and the rest of the night was a blur. I don't remember 20% of my day, but the other 80% was okay I guess. Here's to an amazing senior year!

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
